From a dream in 1983 to improving America's infrastructure across 17 states, AI Engineers has come a long way, and that journey is now being celebrated on a statewide stage.

We are proud to share that AIE's President and CEO, Abul Islam, PE, FASCE, DBIA, has been featured in the Hartford Business Journal's special edition, “America at 250: Letters from Connecticut's Business Leaders.”

In his letter, Abul reflects on his path as an immigrant from Pakistan who arrived in the United States with a vision to build his own engineering firm. Decades later, that vision has grown into a thriving company of over 350 dedicated employees nationwide.

As the country marks its 250th anniversary, Abul shared his gratitude for what America made possible, writing:

“As the United States marks 250 years, I am grateful for what this country made possible for one immigrant engineer and a basement startup. We intend to repay the debt the only way we know how: by building well, investing boldly, and leaving Connecticut and the nation stronger than we found them. We owe it to the next generation of rising leaders who will continue to seek American opportunity wherever it may rise.”

His story is a reminder of how far vision, hard work, and belief in opportunity can carry a person and a company.
