The transformation is officially underway at AI Engineers' new headquarters expansion in Middletown, CT, and this time, we're taking you behind the scenes with the people designing it.
In our latest video, we sit down with AIE's in-house architects to walk through their process for reimagining 909 Middle Street. From early concepts to the details taking shape on site, this is a first look at how our own team is turning two newly acquired buildings into the first phase of a much larger vision.
Designing for How We Actually Work
Rather than bringing in an outside firm, AIE tapped its own architectural talent to lead the design of this expansion, and it shows. The team's approach centers on collaboration: open workspaces, sightlines that connect teams instead of separating them, and a layout built around how engineers actually move through and use a space day to day.
It's a rare opportunity for architects to design a workplace for their own colleagues, and that perspective is shaping every decision, from material choices to how light moves through the new space.
Phase One of Something Bigger
This build out is just the beginning. It's the first of a three phase campus expansion that will eventually unite three separate buildings, including our current main headquarters, into one connected corporate campus, anchored by a glass atrium and new corridors linking each phase together. Phase One is targeted for occupancy in late 2026.
A Process Worth Watching
Good design doesn't happen in a vacuum, and this video captures the real work behind it: the walkthroughs, the trade offs, the moments where an idea on paper becomes a wall going up. It's a rare inside look at how AIE's architects think.
